Oxidative Stress and Skin Tissue Injuries

چکیده
Acne vulgaris is one of the most prevalent inflammatory skin conditions found in late childhood and adolescence. Despite various studies, the etiology or pathogenesis of acne is still not well understood and a single, primary cause has not been identified. In the past several decades, various studies have indicated that patients with acne are under increased cutaneous and systemic oxidative stress as indicated by observation of oxidative stress biomarkers. The burden of oxidative stress may not be a mere consequence of acne. Instead, the oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation in particular, may be an early event that helps drive the acne process. Administration of local and systemic antioxidants appears to be effectively against acne. Oxidative stress-initiated inflammation and its maintenance within the pilosebaceous unit are important initial steps for the subsequent pathogenic processes of acne development. The favorable environment created by the oxidation of sebum for Propionibacterium acnes (P acne) to grow is also an important contributing factor for these steps. This mechanism suggests the oxidative stress as a therapeutic target in the treatment of acne vulgaris. Citation: Wong A, Zhang B, Jiang M, Gong E, Zhang Y et al. Effects of saffron oral gavage on protection of skin flaps against tissue necrosis and oxidative stress in rats
Introduction: Today, skin flaps are used in many reconstructive surgeries and healing of skin lesions as one of the main methods of treatment. Despite improvements in the fields related to enhancement of skin flap survival, flaps viability and their efficacy are still threatened with issues such as ischemia-reperfusion, oxidative stress, tissue necrosis, and even apoptosis in the affected tissu...

in determining the physiological or physio-pathological function of oxygen reactive spices. Release of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in dermal wounds, leads to necrosis as well as apoptosis and tissue loss. Management of the risk factors for tissue loss due to flap failure can reduce risk factors with resultant improvement in the survival and efficacy of the flaps. Materials and Methods: 40 Spr...
متن کاملAssessment of Electrospinning Antioxidant Nanofibers in Skin Exposure to Oxidative Stress
Background and purpose: Some skin injuries are caused by occupational skin exposures that are resulted from production of reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress (ROS). Thus, protecting the skin is a key issue. Recently, several surveys have introduced novel alternatives such as nanofibers for skin protection. In this research, Poly (ε-caprolactone) (PCL)/gelatin (Gt)/ Vitamin E (VE) was i...
متن کاملEffects of oral gavage treatment of Eupatilin on protection of skin flaps in rats
Introduction: Nowadays, skin flaps are used to repair wounds, skin lesions and in reconstructive surgeries. In this way, the main problem is loss of flap tissue and necrosis, due to processes that result from ischemia-reperfusion injury and reactive oxygen species. Eupatilin is an O-methylated flavone derived from Artemisia plants that demonstrates anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and anti-tu...
متن کاملThe Protective Effects of Nanoparticles in the Treatment of Nervous System Injuries: A Narrative Review
Background and Objectives: Nervous system damage causes many economic costs annually. Although many efforts have been made to treat these injuries, nerves are not yet completely regenerated. Primary damage to the nervous system is followed by a series of events such as inflammation, increased oxidative stress, and the spread of damage. Oxidative stress caused by an imbalance between the product...
